The transition to survivorship is particularly challenging for children and adolescent neuro-oncology (CANO) survivors returning to school. Educational attainment is crucial for long-term survivorship quality, influencing future employment and societal reintegration. However, survivors, especially those with central nervous system (CNS) tumors, often face academic underperformance, requiring special education and grade repetition, and achieving lower education levels. Psychological challenges like depression and anxiety further hinder their scholastic progress.
This study aims to improve CANO survivors’ school reintegration by understanding the perspectives of healthcare providers (HCPs) and educators. Using qualitative interviews and focus groups, we will explore their experiences and challenges in supporting survivors. Insights gained will inform evidence-based recommendations to enhance communication among HCPs, families, and educators, ultimately supporting better academic outcomes and smoother school reintegration for CANO survivors.
